Why are we here – #MFRWHooks

Hello and welcome to this week’s….

mfrw-book-hooks400

This week I’m hooking from my upcoming space opera (I’m going to have a free read with two of the minor characters in March)

theimposter-lshillard (1)

Earth was invaded in 2587.  What followed was a war which united all countries in a common goal to defeat the invaders and save their homes. For over a hundred years the war lasted, until all the resources on Earth were depleted.  Then the nightmare began….

The crew of the Jolly Roger, does it best to stay off the grid, unless it means they can steal something the Neuf – the ruling fraction – really wants or needs.

They take a simple job. A grab and run. But it turns out to be far more landing them in direct fire of the Neuf.

In order to survive, they must find out who the Neuf imposter is. But once they do, will they be able to kill him or her?

And this week’s hook…

Aries followed Colven deeper into the maze trying to avoid the puddles of oozing sludge.

“Look Johnny, we have rats.” A gravelly voice shouted from above. She could tell from the dialect the speaker wasn’t human.

Without a word, Colven spun and fired. An explosion vibrated through the air as her feet left the ground. Colven’s strong arm circled around her before she face planted in the mud. With a brush of his lips on her forehead, he stood her on the ground and disappeared in the rolling toxic smoke.

“Mother of a tick invested war whore,” a voice snarled. “Find them.”

Her stomach rolled and dropped to feet, her lungs shrunk as her heart frantically slammed against her ribs. She knew that voice. It haunted her nightmares. A smart girl would turn and run back to the ship. A smart girl would leave Colven. A smart girl would never find herself standing in a toxic dumpsite with the devil’s voice echoing around her in the first place.

The masquerade ball is a fund raiser. Jolene goes hoping to secure the remaining donations needed for the reserve. As Cinderella, she finds Prince Charming. Who is anything but a story book prince. He opens a new world for Jolene. A world of amazing sex. A world Jolene isn’t prepared to delve in.

Besides coming to terms with the sex games Keegan has introduced her to, she must fight to save her dream, stop a serial killer, and try not to fall in love with Prince Charming.

Here’s peek…

He needed to seek out the weed threatening his garden. It was time to start the extermination process. Now to figure out to do that and leave no body.

While he wasn’t afraid of the police they were bothersome. But first he would to talk to Jolene. She hadn’t called him about the flat tire and she’d rode in with Mandy. He’d been worried her feelings for him had changed but she’d just lied for him. Even if she still wasn’t ready to face her love for him, it was there. She was his flower, he was the gardener. It was his responsible to make sure she grew to her full beauty.

He snatched one of the remaining doughnuts and headed out of the conference room.

The reflection in the Mirror – #MFRWauthor

Welcome to Week 6 – Choices and Preferences.

2019 badge blog challenge 640x640 Amerigo BT.png

As an author, I get to play with point of view (POV) all the time.  What message do I want the reader to get determines whose POV I use.  I call this the reflection in the mirror. The reflection the reader sees will shadow the conversation. I love to write a scene from a POV that has the reader emotionally submerged into the reflecton.

This is also true in life. One of ‘skills’ I’ve developed over the years on my job was to try to see what my students did. For example, everyone would agree education is important. Well, not everyone. If you are looking at a math sheet from a 9 year old’s POV who hasn’t eaten yet, has spent the night sleeping in a car, and has no idea what tonight will bring. The math sheet isn’t so important. While you can try to change the child’s POV to see that completing the math sheet will led to a better job, which will led to food and shelter.  The 9 year old sees the math sheet as yet another failure. You see it as a way out.  This is a hard reflection to merge. Both sides are valid.

I try and I’ve taught my kids to try to look at a person and see the reflection they do. Not because they always have a correct reflection. I have students that are jerks just for the sake of a jerk.  I still love them but I do because I’m honest about them.

I’m sure we have all spent an extra 5 minutes thinking about a situation and deciding how best to present it.  I own about 15 pairs of boots. My husband believes that I need no more boots. He’s wrong, I need to change his POV on my boot situation. 🙂 So I look at it from his POV and go from there. (BTW I did win him over and I’m the proud owner of 16 pairs of boots!)

So you can see, I deal with POV in all areas of my life as we all do. But my favorite is in my writing.

Do you find it easy or difficult to change POV’s in your life?

Thanks for stopping by! I’ll see you next week and check out all the other POV’s for this topic –“>HERE

A Female Pirate and A Siberian Tiger – #MFRWHooks

Welcome to another Book Hook 🙂 Last week it was mer and sirens (from my upcoming release – The Last Song of the Siren) this week it’s a female pirate and her ‘pet’ Siberian Tiger. So let’s get to…

mfrw-book-hooks400

Blurb:

DeLaney Black Heart is the captain of The Gypsy Princess, the most feared pirate ship on the Cannequ seas, until recently. Her long standing enemy, Falken Sands, is making good on his threat to ruin her. She is in desperate need of a large bounty to soothe her crew and reclaim her title.

Raven Kinsley is a treasure hunter. He offers DeLaney the chance to redeem herself. Only their history is stopping DeLaney from jumping on the offer. Raven abandoned her a year earlier and disappeared.

Left with no other choice, DeLaney agrees to Raven’s commission. They begin their journey to claim the lost treasure of Midas, but soon trouble surrounds them. Raven and DeLaney combine forces to battle gryphons, the possessed Falken Sands, and other creatures.

DeLaney tries to convince herself what she feels for Raven is born out of battle, not love. Raven knows he loves DeLaney, but until an old enemy is beaten, he can’t make his claim on her heart.

As secrets are revealed, they realize this is more than a mere treasure hunt. It’s a battle for their lives.

LynceeShillard_TreasureHunt_sample[1]

DeLaney stood on the bow of the Gypsy Princess. Esmeralda paced restlessly behind her.  “It will be okay,” she told the tiger. Esmeralda hissed in reply. She chose to ignore the cat’s warning. She’d navigated through Gryphon’s Skull before with no problem.

But those times a dense blue fog hadn’t blanketed the day, blocking the sun making it as if it were midnight. The stench of corrupt magic filled the air.

Esmeralda deep growl sounded behind her as six razor sharp talons sliced through the fog.  She drew her magic as Esmeralda lunged through the air at an unseen threat. The fog swirled revealing at least twenty sets of glowing eyes.

What waits in the fog for DeLaney and Esmeralda?  Read Treasure Hunt to find out 😉 Get it here

Welcome to week 5 of the 52 week blog challenge… and this is topic is AMAZING!!! How can books influence your daily life?

How can they not 🙂

books.jpg

One way is by providing an escape for life. Nothing is more relaxing for after a stressful day than curling up with a book. I prefer fiction but that’s the great thing about books – there all kinds. Sort of like doughnuts 😉

Honeybee-box.jpg

Another is they can be inspiring. Read about a Holocaust survivor. Or about someone who won the battle against mental illness. Again the choice is endless.

Are you looking to ‘improve’ the already amazing you? There’s a book. My current favorite ….

badass

Want to learn how to do something? Yup, there’s a book.

But what if you don’t read? GASP!!!!

There are audio books. So let some greatness into your daily life…read or listen to a book.

Do you have favorite book type? While I do enjoy cookbooks, self-help books, and true crime. My ‘go-to’ are fiction. Ones that whisk me away. That feed my soul and imagination.

Thanks for stopping by, see you next week. Make sure to check out the other challenges http://mfrw52week.blogspot.com/

Race to Death – #MFRWHooks

Welcome!!! It’s Wednesday so you know what that means??? It’s time to share…mfrw-book-hooks400

I know last week I said I’d share something from my siren biker book but changed my mind but this week… I’m going to 🙂

The Last Song of the Siren

She’s second in command of The Daughters of Chaos (a bike club of sirens). He’s Poseidon’s top enforcer. They are meant to be enemies. Instead they have a son. The Siren’s want to use his life blood to break Poseidon’s curse. The Mer want to kill him so the curse can’t be broken. It will take everything Tobia and Malcom have to keep their son safe.

LastSong of the Siren.jpg

Cover – By the amazing Lia Davis https://liadavistd.wixsite.com/agdesign

“And that proves how stupid you are sister.” Tobia stepped closer to the woman and raised the knife, pressing it against the woman’s cheek. “I don’t need mother’s protection. She rules because I allow it. Just as you live because I permit it. Now leave and never seek my son again or my generosity will end.”

He stepped away from the window as the woman turned to go out the back. This wasn’t going to be easy. Clearly, Tobia hadn’t mellowed with motherhood.

“Are you going to hid in the shadows forever like the lying snake you are?”

He may have wondered who she was talking to if the hook knife hadn’t split the wood to the left of his head.

And that is this week’s hook 🙂 The Last Song of the Siren won’t be released until March but if this put you in the mood for  suspense with mers check-out my A Mermaid’s Wish.

Thanks for stopping by and enjoy the rest of the hooks

If money grew on Trees… #MFRW 52 week Challenge

Hi everyone and welcome! This is my first week doing the the 52 week challenge so I guess I’m doing the 49 week challenge.

This week’s topic is ‘if money or time weren’t an issue’… Let me tell you the only thing that would make that deal the best ever would be calorie free…

I have a serious thing for doughnuts… for this challenge it’s money and time.

I’m good with the time thing but money. Ohhhh there are sooo many boots and shoes!

shoes.jpg

AND earrings.jpg                             AND books.jpg

when I had bought all the boots/shoes, earrings, and books then I start a travel program. I live in a very oppressed urban area and I worked in the school for many years. When talking to kids about dreams, they couldn’t dream outside our area. They had never been anywhere. I strongly think a key element to igniting a child’s imagination aka dreams is letting them see outside their world.

So I’d like to start a travel program that would take the kids of urban areas and show them the world outside of theirs isn’t a scary place where the monsters of Where The Wild Things Go live. That they could move and be okay. They could get jobs, housing, and go to the movies just like they do in the area only without being shot at.

And that is what I would do if money grew on trees, what would you do?

Make sure to check out what everyone else is doing with their endless time and money. Hop On

Into the Unknown #MFRWHook

Hey Hey everyone! Welcome to this week’s hook…

mfrw-book-hooks400.jpg

Now I know I when I signed up I had siren biker and merman enforcer… and that was going to be my hook BUT then I got this cover… AND I just had to hook for it 🙂

Hook ~

The bright red beams of the lasers fired from both sides cut through the gas. The cords snapped as the Jolly Roger left the shelter of the cave. Flynn coughed and squinted against the harsh sunlight.

“We’re screwed,”  Rakrin whispered.

Flynn turned following the man’s gaze. A brazen hound twice the size of the one that chased him through the jungle sat perched on the ledge. It growled acid drool dropping from its jowls. The sizzling of metal being eaten by acid filled the air.

“What slave outpost has two hell hounds?”  Spinning around on the hatch, Flynn groaned as the beast snarled and jumped on the ship.  He reached for his last grenade, lifting his shirt.

“I know you think you’re the stud of the galaxy but I don’t think flashing some skin is going to work here.”  Rakrin aimed the laser pistol.

“Wait.”  Flynn cut a tiny slash on his ribs and began rubbing the small rough grenade across the gash.

Rakrin arched an eyebrow.  “You realize they go crazy at the scent of blood.”

“Yup.”

The hound moved toward them, red eyes glowing.  It started yapping with excitement at the smell of blood.  Rakrin cursed as a glob of droll landed on his shirt instantly eating away the material.

The ship jerked, the weight of the beast prohibiting it from taking off.  Flynn waved the blood covered object in the air.  The sounds of the yaps became more like whines as the beast excitement grew.

The Imposter will be available the end of February.

#MFRWhooks: The secret is out…

Hey Hey!  Welcome to MRFW Hooks!

This week I’m hooking from my SWEET Christmas romance!  There are NO…

Steamy love scenes

Dead bodies

Vodka!!!!

But there are animals, a cute 7 year old , and good food (recipes included)!

The Christmas Reunion.jpg

Blurb:

Five years ago, Joleigh Nelson turned her back on the only man she’d ever love to save her father and unborn son’s lives. Now that man may be the only one who can save her home, the New Forks animal reserve.

Spencer Thompkin has spent the last five years in an emotional wasteland.  Unable to let anyone in after Joleigh disappeared without a word.

On a routine foreclosure of an animal reserve, he finds not only Joleigh but a son he never knew about.

Can he get over the feelings of betrayal and help Joleigh save her home – the animal reserve? Or will the heartless lawyer part of him prevail leaving Joleigh homeless and without her son?

A Christmas Reunion may not even be enough to save the animal reserve and restore their love.

HOOK:

Silence hung between them. She waited for the yelling, for Spencer’s angry words.

“You weren’t sure of what?” Spencer whispered and moved away from her. “That I’d want to be a part of my child’s life?”

She took a deep breath and lowered her hands. Tell him the truth, Spencer had always been a reasonable man. Rage twisted his face into a repulsive mask of hatred and she knew nothing she’d say would matter.

“Come in and have some coffee. We can talk everything over.” She muttered as tears brimmed her eyes. She couldn’t breathe. For some reason her lungs refused to allow air in.

“A little late for that offer, don’t you think? That would have been appropriate five years ago, but instead you chose to run.” Spencer crossed his arms. “There really isn’t anything to discuss. I’ll see you in court.”

“Don’t, Spencer. You’ll confuse him.” Joleigh moved toward the only man she had ever loved or wanted. “You’re too far away to be a weekend dad.”

“I have no intentions of being a weekend father.” He reached out and opened the door. “Good-bye, Joleigh. Don’t try to run this time, I’ll hunt you to the ends of the earth if need be. I will be a father to my son.” He turned to face her. Hatred filled his face. “And don’t worry, I’ll be as generous with visitation as you were with me for the first five years.”

#MFRWhooks Beware: This Halloween the treats are deadly

Welcome to this week’s Hooks!

logo book hooks

I’m all about Halloween… and of course murder…and well doughnuts…and vodka.  This is my front yard!

So it was only logical that I would a Halloween book and that book would have some serious creepiness to it.

My newest book – Murder and Treats – is a novella about all those things!

Lyncee Shillard - front - 200 X 300

Blurb

Lila Maxwell is coaxed into attending All Treats, a Halloween speed dating event by her best friend. Instead of the soul mate promised one Halloween ghoul after another appears at her door until Cowboy Bill.

Jax Carlson has spent the last year focusing all of his attention on starting his own business. Hiring Lila Maxell over the Internet as his project manager was the final piece to his prefect plan. Set to open for business in three days, Jax plans on spending a couple of days on his boat relaxing. However, his friend Erik has a different idea – a speed dating Halloween party.

Jax has spent the night plotting the best revenge possible for Erik until Sally opens the door. The woman dressed in the pale lavender Harem costume ignites a fire that Jax thought was impossible without the aid of his formulated dating list.

After a night of mind-blowing sex, Lila sneaks out before they exchange real names believing it was no more than a one-night stand.

Lila’s first day is full of surprises, the biggest being Cowboy Bill is actually her new boss, Jax Carlson. She thinks keeping her hormones in check while convincing Jax that love doesn’t follow a formula is complication enough until she learns the participants of the All Treats speed dating event are being killed.

And just a peek…

Jax opened his door. The faint early morning sun casting long shadows across his yard. He shook his head and walked over across the dew soaked grass. He would never understand why kids found it funny to wrap empty milk jugs in a bags cover them with cloths then leave them in people’s yards. Jax’s steps faltered as he got closer.

The mound in an evening gown wasn’t empty milk jugs and bags.
