Mindset Monday

It’s my anniversary week…. 35 years with the same man.  It’s a serious  commitment to make that many years. Times have been hard, near impossible and times have been good but mostly times have been just life. Not everyday can be amazing. And I’ve met several people who say their marriage/relationship ended because the romance was gone.

Well sweetie let me tell you something. There is NO romance in doing dishes when you are six months pregnant your feet are the size of footballs because you have toxicemiy, you’ve lost 12 pounds in the last month because you are puking non-stop. BUT there is commitment. Not just to each other but to the relationship it’s self.

It is this type of commitment that is needed if you are truly going to achieve your dreams. Dreams aren’t always calorie free doughnuts and endless vodka. They require commitment. ALL. THE. TIME.

As I am regrouping from a publishers closing, a family earthquake, and redefining our household structure, I need commitment. If I don’t have the same commitment to my dream that I have to marriage it would succeed.

Cool planners

Awesome vision boards

Goal worksheets

Are all tools to make the commitment easier, more focused but they will not accomplish the dream.

I’m also looking for idea for a fun different way to celebrate our anniversary. Any suggestions???

Monday Mindset

I hate the cold….hate it really hard. So I’m happy to give up an hour if it means I can wear sandals, not run my car for 30 minutes before leaving, not shoveling, and there is SUN!!! Michigan is very gray in the winter. With the warmer weather – has been in the 40’s – for the last several days, I’m breaking out the cotton candy pink fingernail polish, the always purple mascara, and planting seeds for herbs. While summer is my favorite season, spring is my second.
It’s filled with happy spring flowers….

Yummy foods….

Homemade Strawberry jam

And butterflies…

Career mindset –
I’m starting an instagram account. My eye is twitching just thinking about it. The focus of my inst gram will be my Thursday thirsty and tasty.
I need to have Dragon Queen (this will be under the nice me) done and in ready to submit format by the end of April.
I need Mistress of the Shifters (this is me…lots of steamy sex, suspense, and hot shifters) done and ready to submit by the end of this month.
To be honest the VA thing is just floating in the water sipping on a vodka martini. I’m hoping to move that to a more focus position this week.
Are there any season you look forward? And why?

Let’s Journal Wednesday

It’s the last day of February so I thought I’d share with you my March time capsule (I covered ideas on how to set up a time capsule journal in January) journal spread. As I’ve said before there is no right or wrong way to journaling. Or to set up a topic specific journal.

20180228_094819

Nothing everything will be used on the monthly spread. Some will go on the weekly summaries

One of the key things I try to do when I make my spread is to include stickers/clippings of things I know I want to do or see or make during the month.

Before the ink

But I also want to leave some areas to fill in as the month goes on. For the events, food, and drinks I highlight, I make sure to add the date when we went, ate it, or drank it.

The butterfly is for the butterfly garden I’m taking Charlie to.

If you keep a time capsule journal, I’d love to hear how you do it.

Dream On… Dream journals

This week we are starting a new type of journal and one of my favorites. A dream journal. Dreams are mysterious. Some are funny…some are scary…some are gross…but they always spark something inside us.

Dreams

A dream journal is ideal for you if you want to see recurrent patterns in dreams, recall important aspects needing interpretation, or improve your dream recall more generally. Ultimately, it should be a fun exercise and one that helps you to make sense of your subconscious world

There are a number of theories about why we dream, but no one knows for sure which idea is right, or whether each is right to some degree.

A dream journal can be a memory-jogger and an incredible source of insight into your inner world. Or just fun. I use mine for a lot of different reasons…writing sparks, to understand something going in my life, and also to understand why I do some of the things I do (yeah sometimes there is no understanding that….hahaha)

To record every night requires some self-discipline but once you’re in the habit of keeping one, it’s likely to be one that stays…and it’s easier than exercise and almost as much fun as eating doughnuts.

Today I’m just going to encourage everyone to determine a few things before we actually start talking about dreams, recording them, and interpreting them.
Decide where you want to keep your dream journal. Some want it located next to their bed so they can journal when they wake up. Most of the time I record my dreams and possible interpretation while drinking my morning coffee. So I keep it with my coffee cup.
Next week we’ll look at some different dream journals, I’ve used over time. But determining the purpose of your dream journal will be key in deciding what type of journal will best meet your needs.

Remember there is no right or wrong journal… this is the one I’m currently using. If this doesn’t say creepy dream not sure what does 🙂

The ‘f’ words…

This week’s Mindset Monday is all about the ‘f’ words… Focus and Finish. I have issues with both of them. There are sooooo many shiny things…soooo many trails to be explored and who can’t jump down the rabbit hole?
These two words are so important so lacking in my life.

And while I will always have to explore the trails and peek into the rabbit holes, I also know if I’m going to get my VA business off the ground I need to restrict this. I need to…
FOCUS.

If I want the writing career of my dreams, then I need to FINISH some of these books I have in my que.

For all you type A personalities none of this will make sense because you live those ‘f’ words easily. Since I’m a type ‘Y’ person- why is that squirrel in the tree? Why isn’t that doughnut in my stomach? Why is there a search for pink fuzzy socks being recommended for me? Most people are happy never knowing why but for those of us that struggle with the ‘f’ words, these and so many more ‘y’s cloud my day.
Time management is one of the 10 vision goals. This means replacing the ‘y’ words with ‘f’ words. How have I started to do this?

1. I set defined time blocks. Not I’ll write from 1 to 3. That is way to broad and way to much time for me. Now I write in my planner. 1 to 1:45 write on current WIP. 1:45 to 2 – find pics for blog post/wip or anything else I need. I give myself 15 minutes of ‘y’ time for every hour block. While all you ‘A’ people are WHAT!!!! Wasting 15 minutes. But my focus requires it.

2. There is no real trick for Finish besides willpower. I refuse to let myself start anything until the project I’m scheduled to work on is completed. I made a master writing list at the beginning of the year.
And when you Finish you get bright shiny covers like this….

Journaling through life…

Last month I highlighted a time capsule journal. This month it’s going to be a non-journal into a journal. As I’ve said earlier there is no right way or wrong way to keep a journal. A journal is a place for personal expression. And that expression can be anything.

I truly believe that a journal is a way of reaching inside ones self. For this week and next week, I’m going to feature a gift book. I picked up the one I’m using at the dollar store.

So far the book has lead me on a deep reflection….Anyone can catch your eye, but it someone special to catch your heart. I thought of – and listed – all the people who have caught my eye and I tried to give my heart too only to have it end in disaster. Then, because I like balance, I listed those who still carry my heart.

Another day was pure fun… Love is the greatest refreshment in life… Pablo Picasso then I added besides vodka and wine 😉 I listed three of my favorite Valentine drinks (which I’ll have tomorrow for thirsty Thursday)

I’d love to hear about the type of journals you keep.

It’s the Planner’s fault

I missed ((2))!!!! Webinars last week. This was the fault of my planner. If I had a different planner this would NEVER have happened…. I’m embarrassed to say this but I even went so far as to look at different planners.

Stay Calm. Eat a doughnut. Replace the ‘broken thing.’ This is my MO of sorts. If my balls start to fall it’s not because of ME (shock face) Oh no, it’s because of something else, like my planner.

First, I realized that I was inputting too much on my day to day sections. They were crowed and this led me to missing my webinars.

I still needed/wanted to keep track of my daily word count and pages edited. I set goals weekly and monthly so well as daily in these areas so I need to ‘see’ how I’m doing.

I also need a way to keep my VA business goals in front of me.

AND there are the day to day life things, like hair appointments, library w, and exercising that I want to keep attract of.

This is A LOT for the daily space in my current planner.  So I did what every Queen of Procrastination does… I jumped down the rabbit hole and spent two days looking at the all the amazing planners… watching countless YouTube videos…and joining Facebook planner groups… I came to the conclusion that my planner would work (heavy sigh as I climbed out of the rabbit hole). I just needed to shift HOW I WAS DOING IT…

This is a mindset I need to keep. I so often want a ‘new’ to replace whatever ‘thing’ is causing me  the problem is …

A new character outline because my characters aren’t behaving….

New outlining software because I’m not meeting my wordcount…

And the list goes on but as with my planner it is more often than not I just need to shift my mindset to get out of the rabbit hole and make this work so I can move forward.

On the actually planner pages I use for ‘life’. I have inserts for writing/editing goals, etc

I now use these note strips to track my writing and editing info

#Listifylife Monday

This week’s listifylife topic is … What do I splurge on/indulge in?

I really only have one that I consider a splurge item (drum roll because I know everyone is holding their breath in anticipation)…

#1 – books. I consider books a splurge item because I could easily get all my reading material from the library but also because it represents me time. Time I could be dusting, vacuuming, doing the laundry, or cleaning out a closet. My favorite two reading spots…

Other items that I indulge myself in or buy on a ‘whim’ (not in any order)

#2 – card making supplies – I have enough stickers and supplies to last a life time. Of course, I also use these supplies for writing boards, my daily planner, and scrapbook pages.

002

A card I made for a friend who loves butterflies. I included a package of seeds for a butterfly garden flowers

#3 – yarn. My goal is make a one baby blanket a month for the Linus Project.

stuff 002

This months blanket…

#4 – lotions/body wash. There is no doubt that a cheap bottle of lotion and body wash from Walmart will clean my body and moisturize it. I really really really (like almost to an addiction level) bath and body works.

#5 – candles – I have them for seasons, for holidays, for their name (Margaretville and blackberry martini for example). I have them in every room of them house.

So do you consider splurges and indulgences different? What are some of your favorites?

Little things that make me happy…

This weeks #listifylist is the the little things that make me happy….the list is much longer but I highlighted just few.

Doughnuts…..
